If a third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic is about to emerge in India, as cautioned by several experts, the weekly COVID-19 case count does not seem to be showing any signs of it, as 32 of the 36 states and Union Territories recorded a decline in cases last week.
In the four states/UTs where cases showed an increase in the week from August 16-22, including Haryana, Goa, Dadra, Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the total figures were still too low for the increase to be of significance. The most significant drop was reported from Kerala, with a 10% decline in cases. The state is accountable for more than half of all cases reported in the country, with 1.24 lakh new cases reported last week out of the national count of 2.2 lakh cases.
